  1. first and last part of the session was interesting…you could have covered explain plan as well…

  2. i loved the understanding of v$sess… and v$sys.. tables and the use of them to determing session blocking

  3. Whenever explain plan suddenly changes, you can notice Cache Buffers LRU chain event due to large logical IO. This event tells us that something is wrong with range selections.
    Whenever performance issue, find out,,
    1. How many users are affected?
    2. How many programs/sessions.modules are affected?
    3. If large user base, eliminate factors like Network first.
    4. At the database level, focus on table statistics. Are they stale?
If it is single user/session, then focus on wait events.. this approach really helps.
